Help for Injured Wildlife

This tool will help you locate and contact the closest relevant wildlife carers and rescue and rehabilitation organisations to help the injured animal.

Please note this is for native wildlife in Victoria only. For introduced or domestic animals (e.g. deer, rabbits, foxes, pigs, goats, horses, cats, dogs, cows, sheep, chickens, llamas etc.) please contact your local council or vet.

Is the animal alive?

Please tell us about the injured whale or dolphin so we can find the most appropriate help.

Caution! Whales and dolphins can be dangerous. It is illegal to approach a whale or dolphin within certain distances.

For assistance with an injured, entangled, stranded or deceased whale or dolphin, immediately call the Whale and Dolphin Emergency Hotline on 1300 136 017 to report the animal.

Do not approach a stranded or entangled whale or dolphin within 300  metres.

Boats are not permitted to approach within 100 metres of a dolphin or 200 metres of a whale.

Jet skis are not permitted within 300 metres of either a whale or dolphin.

Do not swim or surf within 30 metres of a dolphin or 50 metres of a whale.

Do not attempt to push or drag the animal back into the water - this can cause further life-threatening injuries and can put yourself in danger.
